Analysis of the Portland Trailblazers

The Trailblazers made a key offseason transaction in the addition of SF/PF Gerald Wallace from the Bobcats. Wallace has helped key the Trailblazers to a good start, going 15-13 so far with close losses to teams like the Mavericks, Clippers, and Thunder. All-Star PF Lamarcus Aldridge has been the main source of their wins night in and night out, currently scoring the 5th most out of all players in the NBA this season.

 

Analysis of the Golden State Warriors

With a strong core of PG Stephen Curry, SG Monta Ellis, and PF/C David Lee, you would think the Warriors would be contending for a playoff spot every season. Unfortunately this hasn’t been the case (and this season looks like more of the same only going 11-14 in the first part of the year. Unless the Warriors can make a quick turnaround via a trade or by those core players stepping up even more, Golden State looks as if this season may be a repeat of the last few: relegation to the bottom of the Western Conference.

 

Key Players

Portland Trailblazers: Lamarcus Aldridge

As stated, Aldridge is the main guy the Trailblazers look to every game. He’s putting up a gaudy 23 points per game and almost 10 rebounds as well, making him one of the most effective yet unheard of players in the NBA. A game where he’s able to put up 30 points and pull down those 10 rebounds against a tough rebounder like Lee will certainly give the Trailblazers a good chance at a W.

 

Golden State Warriors: Stephen Curry

Curry gets a favorable matchup against the slumping PG Raymond Felton of the Trailblazers. Curry is getting about 17 points each night and 7 assists to boot. Going 20-10 with these numbers is vital for the Warriors to win on Wednesday night.

These are two of the highest scoring teams in the nation, both in the top 7 in points scored each night. Where they differ is in their points allowed, where Portland is allowing a respectable 92.8 points scored while Golden State is allowing 100.5, good for second to last. Golden State is going to have to put up a lot of points against the tough Portland defense at home for the win.

 

Prediction

The Trailblazers are simply the better team this year, but the Warriors have a few things going for them. A nationally televised audience watching them play in a big game at home? These are the things that a young Golden State squad thrives off of. While they won’t be favored, I believe the Warriors come out on top, pulling away in the 2nd half.

Rose Garden home of the Portland Trail Blazers

Rose Garden also known as the Rose Garden Arena, the primary indoor sports arena in Portland, Oregon, United States. It is multipurpose arena which is suitable for numerous indoor sports, including basketball, ice hockey, arena football, and lacrosse, as well as for hosting other events such as concerts, conventions, and circuses.

Rose Garden is located in a sports and entertainment district known as the Rose Quarter, a parcel of land in inner northeast Portland which also includes the Memorial Coliseum arena, as well as several parking structures, restaurants, and other amenities.

The arena was designed by architecture firm Ellerbe Becket with over 14,000 permanent seats arranged in two bowls. An additional 1540 permanent seats are found in the arena’s 70 skyboxes. Over 4200 portable seats may or may not be installed, depending on the arena’s configuration.

The building is made from a precast concrete-framed structure with a roof made up of skeletal steel. The structure encloses a total of over 785,000 square feet, on eight levels, five of which are open to the public. The building is 140 feet, from the event floor to the pinnacle of the saddle-shaped roof and includes a 60 by 40 feet permanent stage, and a 200 by 85 feet ice rink.

Another interesting feature found in no other multi-purpose arena what is known as the “acoustical cloud”. It’s a unique feature in the arena where the acoustical cloud is a set of 160 rotating acoustic panels suspended from the Rose Garden ceiling and intended to recreate the roar of noise that made the old Memorial Coliseum one of the loudest buildings in the NBA. Each panel is shaped like an airplane wing, and measures 8 inches thick at the center and 4 inches thick at the edges. One side of each 10 feet by 10 feet panel reflects sound, while the other side absorbs sound. The effect during Blazers games is to absorb the noise from the upper levels and reflect it back down to the court.

These panels permit the acoustics of the arena to be adjusted according to the requirements of the event. The arena is also equipped with a JBL sound system. The acoustics of the Rose Garden have been widely praised compared to similar venues.

“We came here to see the Trailblazers vs. Thunder  game during a very bad storm.  I know it rains a lot here but this was one of their worst storms of the year so I was surprised so many fans trekked their way to the arena to watch the game.

It’s a beautiful arena and they have really good beers too.
